Meet Crystal D. McCormick

Crystal has a passion for people!  Although she was born in Norfolk, Virginia, she was raised in Anchorage, Alaska and graduated from West Anchorage High School.  She gained her passion for people as a young girl from the times she spent with her mother while visiting the sick and elderly in hospitals and senior citizen homes in Anchorage.  While taking an introduction to social work course at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, she realized social work was what she wanted to do.

After earning her bachelor’s degree in Social Work, she married her childhood sweetheart, Geoffry, and traveled around the world as a military spouse.  While stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA, she earned her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Washington.  Their last duty station was Fort Wainwright, where her husband retired after 20 years of service. They decided to stay in Fairbanks and raise their two children, since her husband was born and raised in North Pole, Alaska.

She currently has over 30 years of working in the field of social work and her own private practice for eight years.  She has worked with various patients, clients and groups within hospitals, the military, the school district, hospice, cancer navigation and renal care.  She has found it to be extremely fulfilling to see and experience development and growth in those with whom she works.  Her goal is to provide insight, tools and a listening ear that provides changes now and in the future.

She believes to best care for others is to empower them to care for themselves.  One of her values is connecting people with the correct resources while providing emotional and spiritual support, which allows her clientele to achieve optimal quality of life.

Her specialties include working with: anxiety, depression, coping, grief, life transitions, employee assistance, spirituality, and cancer. My treatment preferences include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT).
